Update on the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
Things are moving forward to start the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd here at Christ the King. For those new to the parish, the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a Montessori-based religious formation for children, age 3-6. It is based on the concept of a quiet room filled with beautiful materials that the children can work with for a two-hour period each week.
We will be setting up this space, called the atrium, in the St. John’s room, on the first floor of the parish and hope to begin with children in January. It will probably be held on Saturday mornings and possibly a mid-week session as well. We are looking for donations of the following:
small carpets to highlight certain areas of the room
low shelves
child-sized wooden tables and chairs
small trays, baskets and wooden boxes
woodworkers willing to make some materials (plans provided)
artistic people able to work with modelling clay to make some Biblical figures
We are also offering a formation course for adults over four weekends beginning in October (see the website for more information or pick up a flyer at the entrance of the church). The course is open to potential catechists, parents, and anyone else who wants to learn more about listening to God with children. It is for our own parishioners and others coming from around the UK. For more information, contact Nancy Wood, cgsnancywood@outlook.com, 07845 898 953.
There will be an information evening by Zoom this Monday, September 27, 7:00-8:00 for anyone interested in learning more. Please write to Nancy to receive a link to the meeting.
