Retreats with the Chemin Neuf Community

In June we celebrated 10 years since Christ the King Parish was entrusted to the Chemin Neuf Community. One of the gifts this brings to our parish is our link with two retreat centres run by the community in the UK: Storrington Priory in the village of Storrington, W. Sussex (about 2 hours from us) and Sclerder Abbey near Looe, Cornwall (about 5 hours). Both are accessible by train.

I want to take this opportunity to invite you to some of the retreats that will be offered this year, especially the ones coming up soon! Please register early as they tend to fill up.

  • 12-18 October: ‘Laudate Si’ Retreat: Six days to contemplate the goodness and wisdom of God’s creation. Prayer, work, and community life in the garden and grounds of Sclerder Abbey in Cornwall.

  • 18-20 October: Hike and Seek: A two-day retreat for young adults including a six-hour hike through the South Downs to Arundel, prayer, talks but also chill/fun time to meet and connect with friends. Storrington Priory.

  • 29 Nov to 1 December: Short Ignatian Retreat: A weekend of guided retreat in silence, for those who want to discover Ignatian prayer. Storrington Priory.

  • 19-25 January: 7-Day Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius in silence. Sclerder Abbey.

  • 15-16 February: Couples Valentine’s Weekend. Spend some quality time with your spouse (children welcome). Storrington Priory.

  • 23-28 March 5-Day Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius in silence at Storrington Priory.

  • 3-10 May 7-day Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius in silence at Sclerder Abbey.

You can learn more and register at the Chemin Neuf UK website.

This weekend all our members are away from the parish, gathered at Storrington for a community meeting. We are about 40 members and 14 children scattered around the UK and meet all together three or four times a year. But feel free to talk to us about these opportunities next week when we are back.
