Expand your Comfort Zone
Two weeks ago, I had the great opportunity to attend a very special “Holy Spirit Week” with the 15 members of the Community of Saint Anselm. As you may know, the Chemin Neuf Community was asked to assist this community of young adults based at Lambeth Palace with spiritual companionship and material organisation. This community is an amazing mixture of Christian denominations and cultures. Though very small, I believe that it is an outstanding way of contributing to Christian unity and peace building.
During this week held at Sclerder Abbey in Cornwall, the members were invited to be open to the transforming power of the Holy Spirit and go out of their “comfort zone”. Thinking about it, it occurred to me that one of the titles of the Holy Spirit is “the Comforter,” he is the one who brings us comfort to face any situation. In a certain way, it means that going out of our comfort zone is not to jump in the unknown without any guarantee! It rather means that the Holy Spirit expands our comfort zone and enables us to walk ways that we would not have planned.
God has much more imagination than we have, he believes in our potential much more than we would dare to, he can see things in us that we do not see yet. Every time we say Yes to the Holy Spirit, Yes to expand our comfort zone, we do experience his comforting company in new spaces of our lives.
